The county is now advertising (see Open Solicitations) a Request for Detailed Proposals (RFDP) for the Route 234 and Sudley Manor Drive Interchange Project through the Public-Private Transportation Act (PPTA) of 1995. The design-build project will construct an interchange at Prince William Parkway and Sudley Manor Drive, with a grade separation of Prince William Parkway and Wellington Road. Bike/pedestrian facilities (shared use paths) are part of the plan.
An interchange at Sudley Manor Road has been envisioned since 1994. Funding constraints prevented construction when the Route 234 Bypass was first built. The Balls Ford interchange was completed in 2023.
A PPTA unsolicited proposal for the Sudley Manor interchange was received in August, 2024, followed by three competing proposals. Bidders have until February 13 to respond. Project completion date is December 31, 2029. $115 million in funding for the interchange was approved by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) in its FY2024-2029 Six Year Program.
