The trails-related personnel in the Prince William Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) have worked hard in 2025-2026 to produce the 10-year Countywide Trails Master Plan. The plan has been developed together with the Transportation Department, which focused on the paved “active mobility” trail segments.
On April 8, when briefing the Planning Commission, DPR staff identified the “next steps” (see above)
The very thinly-staffed trails program in the Department of Parks and Recreation will shrink by at least two people when major construction projects are transferred to the new Department of Transportation and Capital Construction on July 1.
Work for major projects is being transferred as well, including Powells Creek Crossing. In theory, the remaining DPR staff will not have additional duties to perform.
